New event - creative 'Jelly' co-working event

Jelly is a casual working event, where people who usually work alone at home come together to work in a shared space. You bring a laptop, sketchbook (or whatever you need to get your work done) and a friendly disposition.

The Art House Jelly is for any creatives - artists, designers, writers, poets, crafters, who usually work alone.  Jelly is co-working, not networking, and is different from networking in that the aim is not to try to find new clients or to sell yourself or your business.

People turn up at Jelly at any point from the starting time onwards, introduce themselves to the Jelly organiser (Ash) and everyone else.

Bring along anything you can do quietly and independently, so anything on a laptop, or catch up on some good old-fashioned drawing, reading or writing. Other Jellyers will appreciate you taking calls outside the room if your mobile rings.

The event will be held each Wednesday from 3 - 6pm, starting on Wednesday 7 April, in our upstairs gallery area.

Friday 23 March 7pm - 10pm Film screening and discussion

We will be meeting up on Friday 23 March to watch a film and have a discussion!

The greatest cultural accomplishments in history have never been the result of the brainstorms of marketing men, corporate focus groups, or any homogenized methods; they have always happened organically.   We will be watching a film that documents this process in the 1990s in the USA, followed by a disucssion of how it relates to the cultural developments in our city at the moment.

First meeting - 16 Feb 2012

Fab first meeting! The buzzword from this evening was "The Choir Effect" (© Lucy from Art Asia!!) talking about how artists and arts organisations need to agree to shout together to publicise the Arts in our city.
 Ideas for future topics have included:
Marketing and Social Media;
Joint working opportunities for creatives;
Further discussion of 'The Choir Effect';
A speaker from the Southampton Cultural Development Trust;
a portfolio session;
talking about studio space.
We also talked about getting speakers in to talk about these topics and other things such as funding. Many thanks to all who came and we will be setting a date for the next one very soon!
